High Peak MP Andrew Bingham has welcomed a public awareness event which Highways England are hosting next month, about the Mottram Moor Relief Road and Glossop Spur Road.
The event is being held on Saturday 8th October at St Mary’s Church in Hollingworth, just up from the Gun Inn junction, from 11am to 7pm. Representatives from Highways England will be there presenting information about the scheme, and will be available to answer questions.
Andrew has also said that he will be there from 3pm to 7pm, to answer any questions people may have for him about the scheme.
“I’m very pleased that Highways England are holding this awareness event, ahead of the formal public consultation early next year, as I have made my concerns known for a while now that local people don’t know what progress is being made behind the scenes.
“Although I have advice surgeries that day, I have committed to being at the event from 3pm until 7pm, so that people can also ask me any questions they have about what I’ve been doing to try to speed up the processes in order to get spades in the ground as soon as possible.
"We all know the urgency of this road and a possible extension around Tintwistle, and I would urge people to attend the event to impress this upon the officials from Highways England. Whilst the formal consultation will be the main opportunity for us all to have our say, I don’t think we should let this opportunity pass by.
"I am continuing to pressure the Department of Transport to move on this as fast as possible, but if a significant number of Glossopdale residents can go along to this event then it will add further strength to my arguments that we need the bypass and we need it quickly. If people can also make the point that we also need the agreed scheme to be extended around Tintwistle then this will further aid my efforts with the Secretary of State.”
